One of the most abundant and widely used of the Helichrysums, Helichrysum petiolare is easily recognised by its dense, velvety silver foliage, covered in fine silver-grey hairs that help the plant conserve water. Its honey-scented leaves attract pollinating insects, particularly bees, and it occurs naturally across the Western and Eastern Cape. The name Helichrysum comes from the Greek helios ("sun") and chrysos("gold"), while petiolare refers to its long leaf stalks.

Herbaceous and musky, with subtle balsamic hints. An unusual, distinctive aroma among the Helichrysums, softer and less sweet than its Splendidum or Italicum cousins.
